An owner or manager can't force a player to cut his hair - as former Argentina boss Daniel Passarella discovered when he tried to get Fernando Redondo to trim his lustrous locks back in the 1990s.
Passarella, captain of the 1978 World Cup winning side, became coach in 1998 and selected Redondo for that year's World Cup Finals in France. But he insisted that the Real Madrid and Milan star cut his hair before the tournament - to which Redondo said no.
"I was in great form. But he had a particular idea about discipline and wanted me to have a hair cut. I didn't see what that had to do with playing football so I said no again," explained Redondo, who had turned down an offer to play in the 1990 World Cup Finals because he was studying law at the time.
