The reason to why the Benfiquistas chanted the name Michel Platini in the second half, which the chanting began from the start to the end of the second half, is because they and Benfica manager, Jorge Jesus, and Benfica president, Luís Filipe Vieira, felt that Michel Platini had something up his sleeves for Chelsea to advance to the semi-final rather than Benfica.

At the end of the second-leg, in which Benfica went on being eliminated by Chelsea after losing the total aggregate scoreline by 3 goal to 1, Luís Filipe Vieira spoke to the Portuguese press saying that he felt that Michel Platini wanted to see Chelsea to advance to the semi-final rather than Benfica because the Champions League is, according to him, only for the superpower clubs to win it. He then stared into one of the cameras saying that Michel Platini will one day see Benfica winning the Champions League whilst Michel Platini is still President of UEFA rather he likes it or not.

I would like to point out that it was only a group of Benfiquistas that chanted the name Michel Platini and that Luís Filipe Vieira is wrong about how only the superpower clubs win the Champions League trophy because both Porto and Monaco went on to reaching the final, the former winning it, whilst Olympique de Marseille were the inaugural winners.

I would also like to point out that most Benfiquista do, indeed, find that Damir Skomina did a bad refereeing job, but do not think that Michel Platini had something to do with it.
