Many believe Fawzi Al Issawi is Libya's greatest ever player. Born Fawzi Omar Ahmed Al-Issawi in Benghazi in1960, he played all his club football for Al-Nasr and appeared for the Libyan national side 90 times. Al Issawi distinguished himself in two African Cup of Nations finals in 1982 and 1985. He was voted the tournament's best player in 1982, when Libya were runners up. He then finished top scorer in the 1985 competition when he scored five goals. He retired from football in 1997 at the age of 37.
He was voted Libya's 'player of the century'.
